Annual Sports Compititions Held in Different regions of Ghana

ACHIEVEMENTS – DISABILITY OPTIONS GHANA

Amputy Football

DO-GHANA (Disability Options Ghana) formed the first amputees’ football team in Ghana in 2004. The team has now grown to become Ghana’s National Team representing the country in various international events. This development has brought great joy and fulfillment to both the lives of the team and DO-GHANA

Tandem Cycle

DO-GHANA is also the first organization in the history of Ghana to facilitate the design and construction of the first locally manufactured Tandem Cycle for the visually impaired. This was unveiled and officially launched by Mr. Worlanyo Agra, CEO of National Sports Council. The visually impaired are happy and grateful to DO-GHANA for developing the new discipline on their behalf.

Blind Swimming

Disability Annual sports (Legon)

With the help of MTN Foundation Ghana, we were able to organize the 3rd, 4th and 5th sporting event for the disables throughout Ghana. The first event was successfully held on the 3rd of November 2010 at the University of Ghana –Legon with various press releases indicating that the games holds the promise of becoming an important sporting event on Ghana’s sporting calendar.

Disability Annual sports (HO)

The Fourth competition was successfully held on February 20th at HO Civic Center. The event attracted the participation of the visually impaired ,deaf and the physically challenged as well as the spectatorship of school children. Equally excited was an estimated total of 1,200 town folks including non participating disabled persons of all ages and backgrounds, who stayed throughout the three sessions to cheer them up.  Also present was Torgbi Afede XIV, Volta Regional Minister, Volta Region Sport Development Officer, National Sports Council, Municipal Chief Executive, and other local NGOs.

Disability Annual sports (Tamale)

The last event was held in Tamale and was one of its kind, where most of the spectators were especially amazed to see the visually impaired riding bicycles on their own without assistance from aids Again the crowds of spectators were amazed by the abilities of the participants of these disciplines and surprised that the games offer the opportunity for blindfolded able person to equally participate.

SCHOOL PROJECT

Another mandate of DO-GHANA is the provision of a structured and integrated educational, recreational and professional programs for the underprivileged communities to enable inhabitants  especially  children in these communities have access to quality education. It is in the light of the above that we intend to undertake the Todze Community School  Project. DO-GHANA has been able to build a shed under tree school at Todze in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region. There are about 60 students in all from kindergarten to class one. We are therefore appealing to the general public, institutions, and organizations to help build a six unit classroom block for the people of Todze. We are counting on your generous support to donate anything for the purpose of this course

FEEDING & HEALTHCARE PROJECT

Apart from the Annual games and the challenging activities held for people with disability in Ghana, Disability Options feels empathetic for the poor and less privileged. We  provide food, clothing and educational materials for children with various disability challenges  like the visually impaired to feel  part of life and living.

DO-GHANA also play an essential role in providing healthcare and support services to people with disabilities. By working together with mostly private organizations,  individuals and other stakeholders, we help to ensure that everyone has access to the healthcare they need. Every year, we solicit for funds to execute this project. Kindly extend a Helping hand to us.
